Manage Dependencies

The interconnected nature of OrchestraCMS creates dependencies between content, pages, media and taxonomy categories. You can identify the relationships between items through the View Connections dialog.

To access the View Connections dialog

  • From a content item in the content editor, under More Actions, select View Connections in the Actions panel.
  • From the Pages section, select a checkbox beside a page in the list; then select View Connections in the Actions panel.
  • From the Content or Page editor, select View Connections in the Actions panel.
  • From the Media table, select a media library item. In the Actions panel, select Manage and then View Connections.

You can click any connected item to open it in a new tab, or you can click the “drill down” icon adjacent to it to view its dependencies. Drilling down to another item keeps you in the dialog, and you can continue to drill down on items as much as you want.

You can choose to display up to 500 items in the dialog. If there are more items than the amount you have chosen to display, the Previous and Next buttons allow you to navigate through the records.

If you are using OrchestraCMS Private Sharing, there are special considerations for dependency management. A content item or page that would not normally be visible to an OrchestraCMS user within the user interface will be visible in the View Connections dialog. But a user who is restricted from viewing the item because of private sharing will be unable to open that item from the dialog. Only the owner of the item and those who have access to it through the role hierarchy or a sharing rule can open it.
