Create an Article
This content type is part of OrchestraCMS Extensions.
The Article content type contains four content templates that provide flexible ways to display articles on your site.
All four content templates use a single content editor, meaning that an article can be configured once and displayed in four different ways depending on the selected content template.
To create an Article content item
- Create a content item using the Article content type and any of the Article content templates.
- If you have an OrchestraCMS multilingual license, you can choose up to 20 languages from a languages picklist.
- Open the content item in the content editor.
- If you have an OrchestraCMS multilingual license, you can select “Split View” in the Actions panel. This is for ease of translation. (Otherwise, you can use the picklist in the top left hand corner to choose a language for translation.)
- In the Article Detail area, complete the following fields as required for your purpose:
- Article Title. Enter the title for the article.
- Body Text. Enter the main body content of the article.
- In the Article Summary area, complete the following fields as required for your purpose:
- Text. Enter up to 150 characters to create a summary for the article, or click Generate Text to automatically insert text from the Body Text field.
- In the Images area, complete the following fields as required for your purpose:
- Small Image. Click Select and choose a file from the media library or upload a new file to the media library.
- Large Image. Click Select and choose a file from the media library or upload a new file to the media library.
There are no image dimension restrictions on the Small Image or Large Image fields; however, we recommend that you keep the image dimensions consistent. For example, you could choose to make all small images 100 x 100 pixels and all large images 300 x 300 pixels. The exact dimensions you choose should be based on the design of your site.
- In the Image Accessibility area, complete the following fields as required for your purpose (these fields apply to both the Small Image and Large Image files):
- Alternative Text. Enter text that will be used instead of the image for people who use screen readers or people who are viewing the site in a way that prevents them from downloading images.
- Title Text. Enter text that appears as a tooltip when a cursor hovers over the image on a page.
- In the Publishing area, accessible from View All Properties (under More Actions) in the Actions panel, complete the following fields as required for your purpose:
- Priority. To control the order that the article appears in a list of content items (e.g., with the Taxonomy Loader content template), set a priority for the content item and the duration of the priority. For example, Priority 1 items appear above all other items, Priority 2 items appear below Priority 1 items and above Priority 3 and 4 items. Items that do not have a set priority appear below all other items. The duration of a priority can be set as six hours, 12 hours, or anywhere from one to seven days.
- Start Date. The date and time that the content item appears on your live site after it is published.
- End Date. The date and time that the content item no longer appears on your live site.
- Targets. Click to add or edit targets.
- Click Save.
