Create a Google Custom Search Content Item
This content type is part of OrchestraCMS Extensions.
The Google Custom Search content type contains a single content template of the same name. It's used to embed a Google custom search form on a page.
If you want the search form to be included on every page, we recommend placing the content item on a master page.
The following requirements must be met before you can use the Google Custom Search content template:
- The site that will contain the search form must be a public website (not an intranet, community, or portal site).
- A Google Custom Search Engine must be created at www.google.com/cse (requires a Google account).
Follow the instructions on the Google Custom Search Engine website to create your custom search engine.
There is a known issue with placing two of the same Google Custom Search content items on a single page. If you need to place two Google Custom Search forms on a page (e.g., one in the header and one in the footer), create two separate content items.
Use the Google Custom Search content template to insert a custom search form
- In the content editor, in the Search engine ID box, enter the search engine ID of your Google Custom Search Engine. This is located on the setup page for your custom search engine under the Basics tab.
- Optionally, in the Create New Content Description box, enter a description of the search engine. This does not impact how your search functions in any way.
- In the Actions panel, click Save.
The Google Custom Search form can be styled in the CSS for your site.
Google Custom Search results can only be styled through the Google Custom Search Engine interface.
When a website visitor uses your Google Custom Search form, the results are displayed in a pop-up dialog. If you are using the free version of Google Custom Search, Google Ads might be displayed with the search results.
