Create Bookmarks Content

This content type is part of OrchestraCMS Extensions.

The Bookmarks content type lets logged-in users easily access the pages that they use most. Users can bookmark pages, access pages from a personalized list of bookmarks, and remove pages from their bookmarks list.

For the Bookmarks content type, you will need to enable all CRUD and field level security permissions for the Bookmark custom object.

The Bookmarks content type contains two content templates: Bookmark Control and Bookmark List.

The Bookmark Control content template is used to create a button that can be clicked to add the current page as a bookmark.

The Bookmark List content template is used to display a personalized list of bookmarks.

As a best practice, these two content templates should be contained in a single content item to simplify your list of content items.

The Bookmark List content template displays the titles of the pages. If the page does not have the Title field populated, the page URL is displayed.

Use the Bookmark Control content template

  1. In the content editor, in the Add Bookmark button text field, enter the text to appear on the button when the user can add the current page as a bookmark.
  2. In the Remove Bookmark button text field, enter the text to appear on the button when the user can remove the current page as a bookmark (i.e., when they already have the page bookmarked).
  3. In the Actions panel, click Save.

Use the Bookmark List content template

  1. In the content editor, in the Title field, enter the title text for the bookmarks list.
  2. In the Default number of links displayed field, enter the number of bookmarks to display when the content template is first rendered on a page. The user will have the option to increase the number of bookmarks displayed once the page is loaded, including the option to show all bookmarks.
  3. Enter the default label in the Default value label field.
  4. Enter the show all label in the Show all label field.
  5. In the Actions panel, click Save.

The Bookmark Control content template should be placed on every page that you want users to be able to bookmark.

The location of the Bookmark List content template is a design choice for your organization.

You might choose to have it in more than one location on your site. It could be

  • on a page specifically designed for users to access their bookmarked pages, or
  • on a page with other personalized settings.
