Create List content

Dynamic

The List (Dynamic) content type is used to create lists that change over time. A dynamic list displays the most recently published content based on the content type and template that you select. The content items are listed in reverse chronological order by publish date. You can select the number of content items that appear in a dynamic list. Optionally, a list can include a link to a page that displays all the content items that meet the list criteria.

Dynamic lists are typically used to display content of a custom content type. For example, you could have a custom content type for news, events, or articles, and use a dynamic list to display the most recent content items of that type.

Create a List (Dynamic)

In the content editor, select a content type from the List Content Type list, and then click Add. You can repeat this step to include multiple content types in the list.

In order for List (Dynamic) to display content of a custom content type, you will first need to create the custom layout in Salesforce. In Salesforce, Custom Content Types, click on Content Layout and select the “Listable” content type. The selected content template must be associated with the content items you want to include in the list.

Optionally, set the following list properties:

  • Maximum Items. The number of content items in the list. As a best practice, this property should be set to avoid problems with the page loading if all content items attempt to display on the screen.
  • List Title. A title that appears with the list.
  • Background Color. The background color of the list. If this field is not set, the background of the list is transparent.
  • Font Color. The font color for the list. If this field is not set, the font color is determined by the styles (CSS) for your site.
  • List Layout Height. The height of the list in pixels. If you want the list height to scale based on the length of the content, enter “Auto”.
  • Show More Link. Select this option to include a link with the list. Typically, this link directs the user to a page that displays more of the same type of content.
  • More Target Page. The page that the Show More Link directs to. Typically, a page is created to show more or all of the content items that meet the list criteria. For example, you could have a list of the ten most recent news items with a link to a page that displays all news items. If this field is not set, and the Show More Link option is selected, a link appears but does not function.
  • More Target Text. The link text for the Show More Link. For example, the link text could be “Show More,” “Show All Events,” “View All Articles,” or similar text that is relevant to the page that the link directs to. If this field is not set, and the Show More Link option is selected, the link text is “null” unless the More Target Image field is populated. If the More Target Image field is populated, the text entered in the More Target Text field is not displayed with the link but it becomes the alternative text for the image.
  • More Target Image. The image for the Show More Link. For example, you could have an image of a button that says “Show More.” If this field is not set, the link displays the text entered in the More Target Text field.
  • More Target Hover Image. The image that displays when a mouse pointer hovers over the Show More Link. For example, you could have a “Show More” button for the More Target Image, and the same button in a different color for the More Target Hover Image. This would typically be done to match how other links are displayed on your site.
