Cross-Sell
Cross-Sell is a separately sold feature. If this is a feature you have purchased, you can manage your cross-sell from this screen. If it is not a feature you’ve purchased, please contact your account manager for further information.
Categories
From here you can make category level changes to the cross-sell including whitelisting (Promoted) and blacklisting (Prohibited).
Promoted
This is used when you want to promote products from a Target Category within the recommendations made for products in the Source category. This selection can be exclusive, meaning that only the products from the Target Category will return when selecting products from the Source Category (e.g. only recommend “chocolate_type” products when a shopper is viewing “chocolates”), or non-exclusive, meaning other products may return in addition to those from the Target Category (e.g. building the recommendation list, the engine will promote “chocolate_type” products but may also embed other products when the shopper is viewing one of the “chocolates” products).
- To add a rule, click Add Mapping and then type in the source category and select it from the drop-down then select the target category and select it from the drop-down.
- To make the selection exclusive select yes from the Exclusive drop down. To make it non-exclusive, select No.
- To remove a rule, select it and then click Delete.
Prohibited
This is used when you want to avoid products from a certain category (Target Category) being recommended for products from another category (Source Category). For example, never recommend free samples when the shopper is looking at Easter gifts. This will essentially override the engine’s algorithms and remove products that belong to the blacklisted category from the list of recommended products even if they are relevant according to the algorithm.
- To add a rule, just click Add Mapping and type in the source category and select it from the drop-down; then select the target category and select it from the drop-down. Once both have been selected, click Save to add the rule.
- To remove a rule, select it and then click Delete.
Products
From here you can make changes to the cross-sell products returned on an individual product level. First you must use the search box to select a product you wish to setup cross sells for. Once the product is selected, you can set Promoted and Prohibited products for the cross sell.
Promoted Products
This is used when you want to promote a specific product among the recommendations made for the selected product.
- To add a rule click Add Products in the Promoted Products section and search for the product to Promote. Select the product(s) from the results and click Select Products.
- To remove a rule, select it and then click Delete in the product details to the right.
Prohibited Products
This is used when you want to avoid recommending specific product(s) for a certain selected product. This will essentially override the engine’s algorithms and ensure the prohibited product does not appear in the list of the recommended products when making recommendations for the selected product.
- To add a rule click Add Products in the Prohibited Products section and search for the product to prohibit. Select the product(s) from the results and click Select Products.
- To remove a rule, select it and then click Delete in the product details to the right.
You must click Save in the top right to save any changes made.
Advanced Settings
Attribute Based Recommendations
The Celebros Cross-Sell Recommendations Engine is unique in relying on the product catalog in order to improve the product recommendations. In this context, the default setting of the algorithm is to use the tree of categories for making the recommendations.
For example, the Cross-Sell will link the Sweatshirt and Shoes categories if it detects that in many cases products from the Sweatshirt category are bought together with products from the Shoes category. Going forward, when a shopper is looking at a Sweatshirt, recommended product will include Shoes.
In some cases, it may be useful to use additional information that is in the product catalog, namely product attributes.
Each product is tagged by several attributes, e.g. Brand, Size, Color, Price, Material. In some cases, the Cross-Sell algorithm may produce better recommendations by using attributes (one or more) instead of or in addition to product categories in order to associate products.
In the example above, by changing the Attribute selection from “Categories” to “Brands”, the Cross-Sell algorithms will try to match specific brands together and make recommendations based on these matches. For example, products from Ellesse will be recommended for products from Nike, if they were bought together in the past.
It is possible to select multiple attributes, asking the Cross-Sell algorithms to try and match the values across all these attributes to create recommendations.
Important Note: changing the default settings in this tab will affect all recommendations made by the Cross-Sell.
To affect the product recommendations just select the relevant attributes.
Prohibited Categories
The Prohibited Categories is used to affect the category-to-category recommendations algorithm. The Cross-Sell recommendations engine makes recommendations based on products which were actually bought together and also based on statistical links between categories in the product catalog tree.
- Selecting a category in the Category Blacklist will disable this category from participating in this algorithm; thus no products from the category will be returned using the category-to-category algorithm.
- To blacklist a category, simply start typing it into the text box and select the relevant category from the drop-down. Once you’ve selected the category you want to blacklist, click Save.
- To remove a rule select it in the list and click Delete.
Results
You may view which product recommendations will show for specific products in the Results tab.
- To check a result, type the product name or SKU into the search box and select it from the autocomplete.
- Select the desired product from the generated list. This will bring up the product recommendations for the selected product.
Important Note: CHANGES YOU HAVE MADE BUT NOT YET PUBLISHED WILL NOT BE REFLECTED IN THIS SET OF RESULTS.
