These are some of the most commonly used terms in OrchestraCMS, and a short description of what they mean.

A

Access level

A "membership level" for a community, portal or intranet. Different levels allow access to different selections of content and pages.

Access level rules

Rules assigned to access levels to specify the content and pages that users will see.

Actions

A panel situated on the left side of all the main OrchestraCMS tabs that displays a dynamic list of functions related to items listed under the particular tab you have selected.

Ad hoc target

A type of target that contains a variable value that is set when the content item is published. Only one ad hoc target can be applied to a piece of content at a time.

Alert

An email notification that there is new published content when users subscribe to a specific category of content. (See Notification.)

Approval process

Established in Salesforce, approval processes integrate with OrchestraCMS to prevent publishing of pages and content without oversight and approval.

Author

An OrchestraCMS user who can create, edit and publish content, but not pages.

C

 Category tags

Used to help browse specific content items; and when you tag a content item with one or more taxonomy categories, the taxonomy loader can dynamically display the content item (when a user selects the appropriate category from a taxonomy menu).

Clone

An exact copy of a page, content item (including media), task, or target.

Community

A site that can be secured where employees, customers, and partners can collaborate.

Compliance Engine

An OrchestraCMS license that enables a method of granular control when there are many variables in determining a specific user's access.

Content

Everything that goes on a page that is not part of the background design – includes text, images, videos, forms and menus.

Content Tab

Displays a dynamic list of all content items that can be filtered by name, status, content type, start date, and expiry date.

Content Template Creator

A separately-licensed feature, available only to Certified System Implementers for use in development orgs, lets you create custom "user-defined" content templates and associated content editors that meet the specific needs of your customers.

Content editor

Where you can edit and configure content depending on the content template that was selected.                                                                              

Content item

A single unit of content that can be displayed in one or more ways on one or more pages.

Content template

Used in the creation of content, associated with content type; determines how content type, and therefore content, is displayed.

Content type

Determines which content templates are available to use. Standard content types include: Carousel, Data, Form, List (Dynamic), List (Fixed), Media, Menu, Portal, Search, Sitemap, Taxonomy, Text, and Utility.

Custom content templates

Created for specific purposes so a customer can extend the types and format of content beyond the core offering.

Custom content type

Created to provide a specific use for a content type or to provide specific content templates that are acceptable for that content type.

D

Default language

The language you choose when you first install OrchestraCMS.

Display language

Using the language field in Salesforce to display your site language for specific users.

Droppable Area

The area in a page template where you "drop" content.

Droppable Area Summary

Hovering over the Droppable Area on a page reveals which content types are allowable depending on the page template.

Dynamic content

The most recently published content is displayed when the page is loaded or when a user chooses a category from the taxonomy menu to initiate the display of content.

E

Editor

An OrchestraCMS user who can create, edit, and publish content and pages and content.

Email page

An email version of a page on your site that is used with subscriptions.

Error pages

Your branded error pages in place of the error pages that Salesforce assigns by default.

Expire

A published page or content item can be manually or automatically expired in order to remove it from your live site (but not from OrchestraCMS).

Extensions

Additional content types and content templates that extend the capabilities of OrchestraCMS.

External user link

A link that is provided by an internal OrchestraCMS user to community and portal users so they can preview an unpublished page.

F

Filters

A panel in conjunction with the Actions panel. It contains a search box that helps you find a particular item within a particular tab.

Full Preview

A way to preview your entire site in the way it will appear, regardless of whether the pages and content are unpublished or published.

L

Language Selector

A content item that you can add to your pages so site visitors can view the page in another language.

Language cookie

A visitor-selected language code to determine the language in which to display a page.

Layout mode

A mode for page editing that displays the layout and uses widgets to represent the content on the page.

License sync

An automatic synchronization of any allocated OrchestraCMS licenses with your Salesforce organization.

Live site

The current version of your published site that is available for visitors to access.

Lock

Content or a page locked so only one person can edit it at a time.

M

Manage Site Tab

The first tab you see when you open OrchestraCMS and which gives you access to the other main OrchestraCMS tabs.

Master page

A page that contains the elements that will be automatically displayed across many pages – for example, a logo. Any page can be assigned a master page.

Media

The digital files —  images, videos, PDFs, and other media that you include on your website, portal, or intranet.

Media Libraries

A place to store and organize collateral files used on your site, such as images and any file offered for download.

Multilingual sites

Sites with content and pages in a variety of languages.

N

Naming convention

A naming conformity used by all OrchestraCMS users that makes it easier to locate pages and content within the OrchestraCMS application.

Notification

(Also known as Alert) Regular email notification that there is new published content when users subscribe to a specific category of content.

O

Overture Tab

Displays the most recently-used content, pages, media, site-specific help and tips, and helpful links.

P

Page

A page on your website, community or intranet that displays content.

Page editor

Where you can manage the pieces of content that appear on a particular page.

Page template

A layout for a specific style of page.

Page-specific properties

Properties of certain content types and content templates that impact how that content will appear on that specific page.

Pages Tab

Displays all the pages in the site, grouped by those in the site map, those that are not in the site map (unmapped), and master pages.

Permission Set

A Salesforce grouping of permissions. OrchestraCMS automatically generates and assigns these as required for access to the application.

Personalization

Using targets to deliver content personalized to users based on their Salesforce user record settings.

Predefined target

A type of target that contains all the criteria fields and values and requires no inputs when it is applied to a content item. A piece of content can have up to 99 predefined targets applied to it.

Preview

A way to view a page or content item to see how it would appear if it were published.

Priority levels

Determine how long a content item is displayed at the top of the dynamic list of content before it begins to age.

Private sharing

A way to control which content and pages are accessible, and to whom.

Profiles

Each OrchestraCMS user belongs to an OrchestraCMS profile. A profile defines the permissions that make up their role within the application.

Publication

A recurring compilation of content that can be published to your site and delivered by email. Similar to creating a page for your site – but an email version that is sent to those users who have subscribed to it.

Publish

The action of publishing content items and pages so they can appear on your live site.

Publisher

An OrchestraCMS user who can preview and publish pages and content.

R

Rendered mode

Shows you how a page with content will look on your live site and provides for the editing of content within the context of the page as if it were on the live site.

Revisions

Similar to a new version of a piece of content, but used when you want to make a change to the current version of the content and not affect future published versions.

S

Scheduler

The OrchestraCMS Scheduler allows you to configure how and when (immediate, daily, or weekly) email notifications are sent.

Share and collaborate

A way of granting access to a content item or page on an ad-hoc basis.

Sharing settings

Default access settings within Salesforce for specific OrchestraCMS custom objects. For example, if private sharing is enabled for OrchestraCMS content, no one can see content unless they are granted access.

Site Administrator

The user with permissions to use all OrchestraCMS features, and the one who can limit permissions for other users.

Site guest user

The Salesforce guest user profile that is associated with the site.

Site guest user permissions

OrchestraCMS site viewer permissions automatically enabled on installation or upgrade.

Site map

A hierarchical structure for pages in a site; also used as a content item to create a navigation menu.

Split view

A feature that allows translators and editors to view one content item in two languages at the same time.

Structured content

Content such as data, menus, lists — content that uses some kind of structure.

Subscribe

A way for users to receive specific categories of content on a regular basis and also to receive email notifications when new content is published.(See Notification and Alert.)

System Administrator

An OrchestraCMS license that is automatically assigned to the person who installs the first site to OrchestraCMS. The system administrator has full control and can limit permissions for other users.

T

Targeting

A way to personalize content by controlling which content is accessible to specific users. Targeting can be used in conjunction with private sharing.

Tasks Tab

Displays a list of outstanding items to approve, filtered by priority, assigned to, date sent, name, version, type, sent by, and comments.

Taxonomy

A hierarchy of categories used to group content.

Time Travel

An OrchestraCMS feature that allows users to select a date in the past or future so they can view their published site as it looked in the past or how it will look in the future.

Translation groups

Permission for an OrchestraCMS user to translate a content item to a specific language; and membership in a translation group, which determines which languages a specific user is able to translate.        

Unmapped pages

Pages, published or unpublished, that are not included in your site map hierarchy. These pages, like landing pages, are usually stored in an unmapped pages folder so you can control who sees them and when.

V

Validate permissions

Option provided to regenerate any missing permissions.

Versions

A complete new version of a page or piece of content; however, until the new version is published, the current published version is the one that shows up on the live site.

View Connections

A feature that allows you to see how content, media, pages, taxonomy categories are directly or indirectly related to each other.

W

Workspace

The default OrchestraCMS workspace for users assigned to a profile. Another workspace option is the Simplified Authoring Workspace, designed for users who only need the basic functionality required to author content.
